Background
In 2019, members from Model United Nations of the Far West (MUNFW) contacted me with the objective of updating and modernizing their logo.
Empowered by a well-defined branding framework and guided by their vision of incorporating the iconic Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco into the new logo, I embarked on a journey of research and sketching, exploring various logo design possibilities.
Previous Logo
The logo used for over a decade was inspired by the sculpture “Let Us Beat Our Swords into Ploughshares” located at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.  This sculpture portrays a man wielding a hammer in one hand and a sword in the other, symbolizing humanity's aspiration to end war and promote peace.
Challenge
A design challenge I encountered in this project was the task of crafting a logo featuring an iconic bridge without it appearing commonplace, like many other bridge logos. In response to this challenge, I delved into research and sketching, exploring options that adhered to their request for a bridge-focused design, including design elements that paid a creatively respectful homage to the previous logo.
Resolution
I envisioned the final design incorporating the laurel leaves encircling the previous logo, to symbolize the perpetuation and alignment of core values. The distinctive outline of the towers confidently hints at the identity of the Golden Gate Bridge. Lastly, I utilized suspender cables to evoke a sense of a fresh beginning, a new dawn, marked by the breakthrough of radiant sun rays.
Alternative Designs
The creative direction on the second logo was inspired by using the hammer and sword in combination with key elements from the official United Nations logo.
