As Mesa Fire and Medical Department's Graphic Designer, I had the pleasure of forming a strong connections with firefighters like Ben, a dedicated Latino firefighter who was actively involved in the revival of the East Valley Hispanic Bomberos (EVHB) initiative. Established in the mid-1990s, EVHB aimed to provide support and guidance to individuals aspiring to become firefighters, with a particular focus on serving the Latinx and Hispanic communities in Mesa, Gilbert, Apache Junction, Chandler, Queen Creek, and beyond.
Ben, along with a dedicated group of firefighters, united with a shared appreciation for the impactful work previously accomplished by EVHB, even before its discontinuation. They were determined to revive the spirit of community support, just as EVHB had done for them in the past.
Recognizing the importance of a fresh start, Ben and the board members approached me with the task of modernizing the logo, crafting a branding guide, and developing a range of digital and print assets to reestablish and strengthen their presence.
